Use Conservative Estimates
When estimating your expected yields, it’s better to be conservative, rather than overly optimistic. To have a sense of what your yields might be, you can extrapolate from past farming experience, refer to agronomic guides, ask neighbouring farmers, etc. However be sure to put their numbers into the context of your own farm (microclimate, soil quality, weed problems, etc.) and your own farming experience. Risks such as weather, access to harvest machinery and pest outbreaks can impact yields. It is important to plan ahead to deal with these potential issues.
