Weather

Weather poses no greater risk to organic farming than to conventional, according to all of the farmers interviewed. In fact, most stated that organic farming practices led to lower risks associated with dry conditions because the soil management practices increase the soil’s ability to absorb and retain moisture. The only risk factor identified involved the narrow time window available for mechanically weeding certain crops and the inability to do so in wet weather – if it rains during the one-week window, weed problems can develop.
