Summer Fike, “herbs are a lifestyle, not just a crop.” By first working
on an organic herb farm in BC, Summer’s interest in growing herbs for
teas and healthy living was piqued. Summer has completed a
Master’s degree in Environmental Studies – a testimony to her
ecological values. She moved to Nova Scotia in 1996 and has
settled in Somerset (just outside of Berwick) with her own herb
farm. While specializing in teas and other herb mixes, she does
all of the processing of the herbs herself as well– growing, drying,
and packaging them all at her farm site.
When
it comes to herbal teas, Summer is your regional expert, with teas that
create bright herbal delights that are healthy and completely
organic. Her gardens are impeccably kept and beautifully arranged
in a horseshoe shape around her home in six small separate
gardens. Each of the six gardens are specially tended based on
the particular plants’ needs (more shade, less water, more sun,
etc). She has a system set up so that her herbs get the care and
attention they need to be healthy, vibrant plants. Upon drinking
one of her teas or tasting one of her herb blends you’ll see and taste
the difference; brightly coloured and utterly flavourful, Summer’s teas
and herb blends are impossible to beat! “Everyone’s used to bagged
teas” says Summer, “and therefore they don’t realize the huge
difference in flavours that is possible … any café wanting to offer
amazing teas need to buy fresh teas from a farm – it is by far the best
and you are guaranteed exceptional flavours!”
