Brighton Botanicals

Brighton Botanicals, operated by Pam Trenholm and Jim Berry, is located in Upper Brighton, New Brunswick, close to Hartland.
Brighton Botanicals is smaller than most, as it is a 10-acre farm with scattered plots. At this farm, they produce fresh and dry herbs - culinary, medicinal and herbal tea blends, flowers, mixed vegetables, fruit, potted and clump perennials, and the much sought after “Music” garlic. Most of what is produced is sold at the farm gate and the local farmers market. They are currently considering their options for farmers markets for the coming season. Brighton Botanicals’ herbal teas and other herbs are also available at select health food stores and through Speerville Flour Mill’s mail-order catalogue as well as Speerville Farm’s home delivery service - during the fall and winter months.
“Farming organically was the only way to make growing seem real to us and to be responsible toward our soul and our planet”, says Pam. Brighton Botanicals has been certified with Maritime Certified Organic Growers since 2001 and believes that certification reassures to the consumer that the standards are followed.
“Farming is both a physical and financial challenge”, says Pam about the challenges of farming organically. To manage these challenges, Brighton Botanicals plans to eventually produce fewer vegetables, unless contracted, and to concentrate on growing more perennials, herbs and garlic by next season.
At Brighton Botanicals, they offer many services for visitors. Self-guided garden tours are available, as well at un-serviced tenting sites. You can also learn about herbs, including information on their many uses. Many who visit also learn a lot of processing techniques like food storage, canning, freezing and pickling. Brighton Botanicals also offers cut flowers for all occasions. Brighton Botanicals belongs to WWOOF, and in the near future, would love to be able to offer “working farm vacations” where people can vacation in a healthy and inexpensive way, while helping with the farm and learning about the lifestyle.
