Upper Stewiacke, NS and Truro, NS
Morning at Cochrane Family Seeds: "Integrating Seed Production & Market Farming". Please join us for a farm tour and talk with Frank and Julie Cochrane of Cochrane Family Seeds. An organic farm offering year-round vegetables via farm gate, markets and CSA, Cochrane Family Farm, raises and sells herbal products and runs an outlet feed store offering farm supplies and gear. To top it all off, they've recently added seeds to the business, offering organic and ecologically grown varieties of vegetables, grains, and flowers! How do they do it all? Come join us and find out! Frank will touch on topics such as planning, seed crop isolation and management in the context of a market farm, equipment, and labour. This event will be held rain or shine, so please dress for the weather!
Afternoon at the Seed Bank: After lunch at the farm, we'll head to Dalhousie Agriculture Campus (Truro, NS) for a unique opportunity to visit the Atlantic Canada Regional Seed Bank. We'll hear from representatives of ACORN and Dalhousie, who run the seed bank jointly, about the seed collection that's housed there: the varieties, the grower network, as well as processing and storage protocols.
Please register online. Specific event details will be sent out to registrants the week before the event.
