ORGANIC COUNCIL NOVA SCOTIA
COORDINATOR
Contract Position until March 2009
CONTEXT
The OCNS is a newly formed organization that will lobby government and advocate on behalf of the NS organic sector. It will also provide feedback to the Atlantic Canadian Organic Regional Network on provincial issues, and plan for development and growth of the different NS organic industries.
THE POSITION
The part-time Project Coordinator will report to the Board of Directors on issues and developments that relate to the OCNS and the Nova Scotia organic sector. The primary role and responsibility of the Coordinator is to build membership and to manage the affairs of the Council, based on the guidelines set out by the Board. The Coordinator is not an executive director and is not authorized to speak on behalf of the OCNS.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1) Establish an official office for the Organic Council Nova Scotia (this may be a home office).
2) Recruit and administer membership
3) Data base design, development and maintenance
4) Draft governance documents
5) Arrange for the creation of an OCNS website and other media/promotional/educational materials
6) Develop and initiate proposals for funding
7) Fulfill reporting obligations according to the ACAAF Contribution Agreementthis includes tracking of in-kind contributions to the project
8) Undertake banking and bookkeeping procedures
9) Perform general administration functions
10) Coordinate OCNS and Industry meetings
11) Provide timely progress reports to the Board
Time commitment: This is a part-time contract position until March 2009, with a possibility of an extension.
Location: The OCNS is flexible regarding the location of its office, depending on the needs of the successful candidate; however, the office must be located within Nova Scotia.
Remuneration: According to skills and experience of the candidate.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have experience in the development and management of non-profit sector organizations, along with experience in office start-up and administration. The candidate will have superior bookkeeping, verbal and written communication skills, and have the ability to work effectively without direct supervision. Knowledge and experience in the NS organic industry is desirable. Excellent computer skills and internet access are also required.
